Walsall v Swindon Town
Jon Whitney's Walsall faced a Swindon Town side on Easter Monday, who were desperately looking for points in their quest to beat the drop.
It was Walsall however who started brightly and nearly opened the scoring in the first minute as Jason McCarthy powerfully shot past Lawrence Vigoroux in the Swindon goal, but a last ditch clearance saved the day for Swindon.
The game was open and entertaining in the first 25 minutes with Swindon's front pairing Jonathan Obika and Nicky Ajose looking particularly dangerous on the counter attack. However, it was the commanding Ben Gladwin who nearly opened the scoring for the visitors as he skipped past five Walsall defenders to shoot low but Craig MacGillivray made a superb save to deny the QPR loanee.
As the first half wore on, Swindon had the better of the chances and Charlie Colkett struck wide just on the stroke of half-time.
The start of the second half saw Walsall come out of the blocks quickly as Bakayoko nearly connected with a Joe Edwards cross-shot. Macgillivray again was called into action as he denied Gladwin with a fingertip save from the midfielder's glancing header.
With the game petering out towards another stalemate, Edwards popped up with the winning goal on 85 minutes converting from 10 yards out.
The Saddlers held on and will now be looking to Saturday and their last away fixture of the season against Coventry City.
