Hartlepool vs. Walsall

Victoria Ground

Sat 29th September 2007

3pm kick off

The pool V Walsall Preview

We are the champions song is sounding a bit lame as we sit on the bottom of the league looking up. A week of blood letting on various forums reached feverpitch when Danny Sonner and Walsall parted company yesterday, leaving the squad looking threadbear even at this early part of the season. It would be no suprise if there are new faces on the coach up north.
Hartlepool on the other hand have carried on where they left off last season and we give us a stern test.

Vital Quotes:

Walsall have agreed to terminate the contract of Danny Sonner by mutual consent.....I can't get past that statement whether it is the start of a new begining or the rats leaving a sinking ship only time will tell.

Hartlepool striker Ian Moore told the local press...
'We played well against Leeds and Orient but it is equally important, if not more so, to have that same attitude when you come up against the so-called lesser sides.'

'We always go out to get three points regardless of who we play'
so we are a lesser side....well at the moment I can't argue.

Hartlepool Team News:

Hartlepool have a particularly dangerous strike force, in Porter and Ian Moore and they are the highest scorers in the Division, beating leaders Orient 4 - 2 away last weekend. They do seem to let in goals but I can't see them letting in more than they will score. Micheal Nelson again is at the centre of there defence but protecting a new keeper Jan Butz (sp) who impressed many whilst on loan at the wolves last season.

Player to watch: Ian Moore

He will fancy adding to his goal side against this particular 'lesser side' Son of ex Rotherham and now Tranmere manager Ronnie Moore he is certain to try and rough up our defence.

Walsall Team News:

Ian Roper joins Alan Picken and Paul Boertien on the side lines. So the defence will more than likely line up as Weston, Dann, Gerrard, Fox. The midfield which is lacking in numbers may well have Sonko, Dobson, Wrack and either hall or Ishmel. Upfront although it didn't work I would not be suprised if DD gives Butler and Mooney another run, although I would like to see Troy Deeney another run.
This could all change if the loan signings which everyone is hoping for materialise

Player to watch: Micheal Dobson

Stepped down as captain last week as DD but him on the bench following the death of his father. It is now time for Dobo to put his critics to the sword and put in a solid performance.

Match Facts & Stats

Doesn't really count for much were are rubbish and they are quiet good!!

Match Prediction:

Walsall tinted glasses says a draw is the best we can hope for in reality another defeat is on the cards.

Next Fixtures:

It doesn't get any easier tuesdays trip to Doncaster is another toughy
