It's hard to believe it's been nearly ten years since a relitively unknown midfielder called Darren Wrack signed for Ray Graydon and played his first game for Walsall.
Before arriving, Wrack had short spells with Derby and Grimsby but he was never really given a chance. It helped that when he arrived at Bescot Graydon's squad was small to say the least but Wrack took full advantage of this.
During that memorable 1998/99 promotion season, Wrack was one of the star men. It is also believed that an offer of £750,000 was made by Fulham (the only team to finish above us that season) but was rejected because the club felt he was worth more.
Over the next few years Wrack was part of the ups and downs of Walsall football club and is still a fans favourite. Injury has limited his appearances over the last couple of seasons but he has fought back and is still possibly one of, if not the most important player at the club (ok, you can argue this, but this is just an opinion!!!)
This year, of course, is Wracky's testimonial year. After over 300 appearances it's well deserved and there are loads of events lined up over the coming season. To find out more about Wracky's testimonial year visit the website www.darrenwrack.co.uk
