Walsall have announced that planning permission has been granted to errect the biggest advertising hoarding in Europe. This once again takes advantage of our motorway location which sees over 200,000 vechiles pass by each day.
How much income this is going to bring in is in debate and no official figures have been announced, as it is unsure if any potential advertisers have been lined up. However the advertisement at the Fort Dunlop brought in £100,000 per week, whilst the design of the board sugests that we may struggle to reach that level of income a rumoured £250,000 per month would be exceptional for a club of our size and level.
Of course when this was first mentioned the idea was to place the ad on the back of the proposed new away end which planning permission is already in place for. This stand which would be an exact replica of the home stand was to be funded by the revenue from this ad. Then any future monies from advertising invested in the club. The stand itself would increase revenue into the club by expanding our extensive corporate and meeting facilities, especially with the hotel now on site.
So it is a wait and see in terms of investment on the pitch. However the financial security of the club is now looking much healthier. So once again the much critised Chairman Jeff Bonser has come up trumps, a policy of not spending more than we can afford whilst has failed to bring big names to the club on the pitch but at least we have a stable club which is moving forward and seems to have taken a big leap to recovery after the ITV Digtal collapse which effected the club so badly.
