Walsall sign Millwall target

The first loan signing has been made today as DD signs up Barnsley midfielder Dwayne Mattis. Dwayne was reported to be signing for Millwall on loan last week, with the Lions manager describing him as a box to box midfielder who could put his foot in. Very similar to how DD described him today in fact

The former Huddersfield and Bury man is 26 and made 79 appearances for Huddersfield and 110 for Bury before joining Barnsley in January 2007. DD has been watching Mattis since his spells at these clubs.

Despite interest from MK Dons, Mattis signed for a fee of £50,000 which rose to £75,000 when Barnsley avoided relegation .

Dwayne Mattis is a former Irish under 21 International but he has been unable to break into the Championship side`s first team this season, although he did play for them in the Carling Cup against Newcastle which many Tykes fans viewed as his best performance in the red shirt. It is true that he hasn't really had the opportunities that he would have hoped for at Championship level and the move is a good one for both player and the Saddlers.

Welcome aboard Dwayne
