They have always said football was a funny game - well I'm not laughing! If Leeds had not gone into administration, we would be sitting very uncomfortably at the bottom of the league. Lovely! And it can all change next week if DD's Barmy Army fail to beat Millwall at the New Den on Saturday. I suppose it could be a lot worse...well maybe not alot worse but certainly a little more serious. It's not every year you can say your above Leeds by two points and only one point behind Nottingham Forest. Ten years ago, Saddlers fans would have dreamed of that scenario. so it's not all bad, we can take some positives.
The reason why Walsall lie second from bottom is the old problem of scoring goals. The situation has gotten so desperate that Troy Deeney played at Gillingham, while Paul Hall is now being used their to try and generate some goals for the team. So far, it's not worked! DD is now talking about loan signings, after saying that his squad was good enough. Obviously not! Another young striker needs to come in, or simply and the cheaper option would be to just play Demontagnac up their with Butler. I may not be a manager, but team selection isn't exactly rocket science is it?
There are plenty of players in our squad that can play, but DD is not using them week-in-week-out. There needs to be more stability in the side - this is how Merson got us relegated by signing over 40 different players and playing them all (not at the same time you understand). There was never a consistent selection and I hate to say it but DD is doing the same. He needs to stop messing about with who he plays upfront with Butler and he needs to choose his first choice wingers. Team selection at this stage should not be an issue, there should be a consistent selection, which would only generate the same team ethic we had last year. Then, the goals will flow like a river in the British summertime!
