Walsall sign striker Junior

Walsall sign striker Junior

We have announced that we have signed up Joao Batista Mawete (otherwise known as "Mawete Junior" in Portugal and at International level).

The former Benfica striker has been given a four month contract to prove himself, having made his debut for Benfica at the age of 18 He has also gained international caps for Angola at under 21, under 23 and full International level.

He left Benfica for Sporting Braga but has failed to make an impression recently. He did make an appearance in the reserve game against Coventry. Our first goal was a result of his shot not been held, whilst the second was by himself after setting himself up with a smart bit of control and a clinical finish. The was against ex premuirship defender De Zeeuw.

Walsall have given him a four month contract with view of a more permenant deal should he continue to prove himself. The 26 year old has still to build up his match fitness and sharpness so it might be a little while before we see him in the first team.
