'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Northern Saddler

Well, the new footy season is in full swing, with one managerial casualty already. When it was announced that Neil McDonald had been sacked as manager of Carlisle, especially after their 1-1 draw with us, I nearly spit out my brew.
I mean, just because they couldn`t beat Walsall they have to sack their manager even though it was only the first game. What are they trying to say - we are that bad, they have to dismiss their manager when his team draws with us. Charming!!
I wasn`t as disappointed as the Carlisle board to hear the result from Saturday (obviously), but I wish we had put up more of a fight in the first half to have eventually won the game. It`s like when you go to a MacDonald`s (bare with me, it gets better), you order a full fat meal, but you still ask for a diet coke. Why? Why not have a full fat one?
It`s the same with Walsall, we should`ve tried harder in the first half of the match, as we could be in for the England Syndrome - a condition when a team only plays 45 minutes. If we get into this habit, then we will be in for a very, very long winter (although with the weather being like it has isn`t it going to be a long winter anyway?). I wasn`t at the match, but I could tell from the Villa performance that we were going to have problems. I mean, when some of the current squad can actually say they didn`t have studs in their day, you can understand when you come up against a pacey team, your in a bit of a muddle.
Finally this week, I keep hearing rumours that Darren Byfield is on his way to Walsall after being told he is not in the Millwall side and is considering his future. Look, I think I can safely say there would be more chance of chickens discovering a way of time travel to the year 300746 million than Byfield putting on a white Saddlers shirt this season or at anytime in the future. So on that note, expect him to sign for us next week!
