A few weeks back the rumour mill was doing over time with stories of Darren Byfields exit from Milwall, despite statements from Darren saying everything was fine. So what is happening.
Well it is true there is interest from Walsall and Oldham and others in Darren. However the release that Darren was seeking from The Lions hasn't been as straight forward as Darren and his agent had hoped for. In all fairness I would hope the Saddlers would be the same if the roles were reversed. Two things seem to be a stumbling block firstly Milwall want a suitable replacement in place before anything happens....I wish Merson had done the same with the Jorge/Matty situation. Also the financial side needs to be sorted will they ask for a fee as Darren still has time to run on his contract or will the setlement between Darren his agent and the club be enough....we will have to wait and see.
Of course Darren's desire to move back closer to his midlands roots has been well documented. As has his close links with the club and he still plays golf with some of the players at Walsall although Merse has of course gone. However the contract talks with Darren have not gone well with our offer been less than another club thought to be Oldham, however as the process has been more and more drawn out Oldhams interest seems to have cooled, good news for us.
There are so many if's and buts on this story you can't rule out Darren still been a Lion next season.
