We could have taken more fans, a black market has already started for away tickets and I suspect the same is happening for home sections too. But the truth of it is that Swindon wished there weren't so many of us comming. In a press statement they say they regret giving us the Stretton Bank and the 1325 tickets in the stand. This does beg the question why did they then give us another 630 on tuesday then!!
So some of the travelling band will be classed as unwanted guests at the promotion party....well like any gatecrasher lets make some noise and make ourselves noticed.
The press release read as follows but I also feel the Swindon board jumped on the band waggon to sell as many tickets as they could and thought we were the best bet, unfortunatly it seems as if they have sold there own fans short.
Swindon Town Football Club would like to clarify the reasons behind the away allocation taken by Walsall this weekend.
Under Football League rules the club are obliged to offer at least 10% of the ground capacity to visiting supporters as registered with the Football League.
Tickets went on sale for this game 11 weeks ago when the decision was made to open the Stratton Bank as well as the usual away section of the Arkells Stand which only has a capacity of 1,325 . This falls below the minimum requirement and it was therefore mandatory for us to make additional space available for Walsall supporters.
With the experience of the Mansfield game and the benefit of hindsight we may have taken the view that only the Stratton Bank would be made available to away fans to meet our obligations under the Football League regulations. However, at the time the tickets went on sale we could not have reasonably envisaged a sell out for the game.
We share the disappointment of any regular fans that have been caught unawares by the extra demand for tickets and will be unable to see the game.
