Wanted 20 goal striker for Walsall

Wanted 20 goal striker for Walsall

DD speaking to the local press has stated that there is a lot of rebuilding to be done at the club if we are to hold our own next year. This is no suprise to any Saddlers fans. He has said that the defenders need to be a little bit smarter in league one, so there is pressure on the defensive lads to hold onto the shirts for next year.

Many a Saddler has stated the need for a creative midfielder this season, that question is sure to be asked again.

However the top of the wish list is a twenty goal per season striker, as DD believes that one of the major differences between league one and two is the quality upfront. This added to the fact that our top scorer is a midfield player with 12 goals adds to the concern.

Of course we have strikers at the club. Martin Butler has also hit the net 12 times this season but gives so much more to the team, in terms of work rate and shear effort. Hector Sam, has performed his best when under pressure but for all his nice touches he has never been a 20 goal a year striker. Trevor Benjamin on loan from The Posh has given us a true target man and strenght in the air, but would we want him to stay, if he did would he be happy on the bench. Par Cederqvist has not really settled into the English game and hence has been a disappointment, but is it too early to cast him to one side, from my point of view since he is on a relatively low wage I would give him a bit longer. Of the young strikers both Troy Denny and Alex Nicholls have potential but unlike Paul Merson I can't see DD dropping either in the deep end until they are ready.

Twenty goal strikers don't grow on trees so where do we find one. DD isn't keen on long term loans so either a reject of a higher league club, or since we historically don't pay transfer fees it would be a player out of contract. I can see Paul Taylor been busy and wouldn't be shocked to see a number of foreign trialists head through the doors at Bescot, oh what we would give to un earth another Kyle Lightbourne or Roger Boli.

Perhaps with Manderic millions at Leicester been invested in the club, is it right to ask....when's Matty coming back?
