Walsall 4 Bristol City 0 30 May 1988
Back in the day when play-offs were two-legged, even this couldn't seperate us from City at the end of a tough season in, what was then, Division 3.
After the two legs of the final (we won 3-1 at Ashton Gate, they won 2-0 at Fellows Park) a penalty shoot-out was fought out to see who had home advantage for the next installment.
Saddlers goalkeeper Fred Barber proved a final penalty stopper and the right was won to have the match at Fellows Park.
A huge crowd turned up for what proved to be the decisive match and after 17 minutes Walsall legend David Kelly had found the net twice to put us on the brink of promotion.
It was three before half-time and the tie looked over despite City having their chances.
Kelly sealed promotion with 10 minutes to go and the 13,000 inside Fellows Park erupted.
Just two years before we said goodbye to Fellows Park, we actually did say goodbye to Kelly for who this was his final match. He moved on to West Ham but is still fondly remembered by all Saddlers fans.
Here's hoping for another promotion-clinching display tomorrow from the lads.
