A much needed return to form for the men in red has meant that the chance of returning to top spot was rekindled with a solid 1-0 win over Chester at Bescot last Saturday. Deano`s goals have been crucial for us this season and without him we would have probably been in Wycombe`s position in 7th. You could say the same for all the other players, but Deano has been a class act for me all season. He should get Player of the Year, but we shall wait and see.
Next up Wycombe. Oh dear, not really what we needed at the moment. Although, you could argue that now is the perfect time to play them in League Two, as they got mauled by basement club Torquay at Plainmoor last Saturday. So there is hope. However, Walsall on the road has proved to be average in recent weeks, with a 2-0 win at Macclesfield and a 0-0 draw at Darlo being the best results. We got thumped all over the pitch at Hartlepool, swept away by Stockport, so we must make sure we do not do the same at Adams Park. They have a top quality striker and skipper in Tommy Mooney, who will no doubt get on the score-sheet this weekend. With any luck, it will all end in three points for the Saddlers (fingers and toes are crossed).
Now for a word on the possible return of Matt Carbon. He is like the Mission Impossible films; they just don`t know when to stop. The first MI film was exciting and full of promise and had us all on the edge of our seats. The second one saw us again on the edge of our seats, but this time looking at the exit to the cinema. And finally, the third was rubbish, so don`t re-sign Matt Carbon! He came and did ok, then messed us around when he didn`t know whether he wanted to play football or not, and then he said we were a 'smaller club` than Barnsley (well observed), and now he may want to return after being shoved to the back of the queue at Oakwell. Well, tough do-dos mate! Personally, as you might have noticed, I am against any form of return for the 'Sicknote,` as Walsall fans use to call him, as he was never that good of a player when he was at Bescot in the old First Division. What do you think? There is a poll currently running on this site, so don`t waste your vote as we await the results with interest.
