'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Walsall Defender link

Rumours have been about for the last week of a centre half been added to the Saddlers ranks. Along side this has been talk of an ex saddler training with the current squad. The first clues to the identity of this mystery defender was a reported sighting where the squad trained at a local school.

Well the local press have confirmed or at least copied this store and released the name....Matt Carbon.

However whilst the newspapers are sure that old sicknote will once again be appearing in a Saddlers shirt at a ground near you. Others are yet to be convinced. It could be that Matt Carbon is just training in a view to maintain fitness. It has happened with other players in the past.

How would the Bescot faithful take to 'sicknotes' return is another question. Many will (and have) looked at his performance against us for Barnsley and say thank you but no thanks. Added to this the players advancing years and his habit of giving free kicks away on the edge of the area, you can understand the thinking.

However the flip side is we not going to get another Paul Ritchie walk into the club, after all we are a league two club. He is experienced, tall and commanding. Despite any short comings he would be better than a lot of other defenders in this league.

What do you think have a vote on our new poll.

He can go and stick his head where the sun doesn't shine. He was rubbish then and he's rubbish now! Prefer Gerrard and Dann. Get a right back DD!!!

Remember that Gerrard didn't do well under pressure last season and Dann whilst excellent is only 19, we need some experienced back up....Carbon is a player with Championship experience...not too many of those in league two.

Yeah, but we got Westwood, just get another RB
unosaddler13
Westwood has only played well at centre half with alongside a commanding centre half neither Dann or Gerrard fit that bill. Ask any Poolie Westwood was best alongside Nelson who fits that bill.
