Keates Was Only Ever Going To Leave Wrexham For Walsall

New Walsall boss Dean Keates has today admitted it was only Walsall that could have persuaded him to leave Wrexham.

Earlier this week Keates left Wrexham following two years managing the club where he had played one hundred and fifty three games over a five year spell, to manage his hometown club and admitted it wasn't an easy decision but the lure of his hometown club was something he couldn't turn down.

Speaking to a local paper in Wrexham, Keates said

'People might just think I am saying this but if it wasnt Walsall, I wouldnt have gone. If it wasn't my hometown club I would have stayed.'

'Its something I had to think about, and would I get this opportunity again? They (Walsal) would not wait until the end of the season.'

It is believed that Keates had a clause in his contract allowing him to talk to a league club as long as compensation was met between the two clubs - late on Thursday evening The Saddlers had reached an agreement with Wrexham and Keates was unveiled as new Walsall boss on Friday evening signing a three and half year deal.

All indications point towards a press conference from our new manager tomorrow where hopefully we will find out about Keates management set up.

Keates will take charge of the Saddlers for the first time on Wednesday as we entertain League 1 promotion hopefuls Wigan.
