This Is Who We Think Should Be Walsall Manager

This Is Who We Think Should Be Walsall Manager

With todays news that Jon Whitney has been sacked as Walsall manager following increasing pressure from supporters, we look at the top five who we would (financially allowing) appoint as manager tomorrow.

1. Adi Viveash

He is currently the bookies favourite at Evens and is already the overwhelming favourite amongst Walsall fans.

Viveash was club captain during our promotion in the early 90's and went onto make 202 appearances for the Saddlers. Viveash has gone on to be widely respected as one of the games top coaches, winning the Youth Cup on numerous occasions with Chelsea. Viveash is currently assistant manager at Coventry City which could act as a stumbling block with Bonser always adament not to employ someone already in a job.

2. Dean Keates

Keates needs no introduction to Walsall fans having won promotion three times whilst with the club during the time he made 209 appearances scoring 27 goals.

Keates was born on Beechdale Estate and a return to manage his hometown club might be an offer he cannot turn down despite currently managing Wrexham who are fourth in the Conference. Many pundits have applauded Wrexhams style and Keates approach to his first stint in management however like Viveash, Keates is currently in work so might be out of reach for Bonser.

3. Uwe Rosler

Rosler is another name being touted by Walsall fans. Rosler has experience managing in England with Leeds, Brentford, Wigan and more recently Fleetwood.

Rosler won promotion to the Championship with Brenford before steering Leeds and Wigan to midtable finishes. Rosler also took Wigan into the FA Cup semi finals but his recent job at Fleetwood will put alot of people off with Rosler leaving the club in the League 1 relegation places despite spending alot of money.

4. Lee Carsley

One name that hasnt been mentioned but we will throw it out there is Lee Carsley.

Carsley enjoyed a long spell as a player in the Midlands with Coventry and Birmingham but has recently been caretaker manager at Coventry, Brentford and Birmingham - with an impressive win rate of 41.7%.

Carsley was replaced at Brenford by former Walsall boss Dean Smith.

5. Steve Cotterill

Now dont shoot us down for this one! Apart from his disastrous stint at Birmingham City, Cotterill does boast an impressive CV.

Lets not forget how good his Bristol City side were that stormed the league title and beat us in the Johnstones Paint Trophy Final at Wembley.

Cotterill will come here with something to prove although his wages might prove a stumbling block!

Cotterill has the most impressive career in management out of the five winning the FA Trophy, Conference Title, League 1 Title, Johnstones Paint Trophy, League 2 Title and League 2 play offs.
