BBC Report - League 1 Details For 2017

BBC Report - League 1 Details For 2017

The BBC's Price of Football annual survey was released this week, and their investigation shows that the price of League One football has only slightly reduced compared to 2016/17.

Compared to the last survey (2016/17), the BBC found that matchday ticket and Season Ticket prices on an average basis had fallen.

The cheapest season ticket on average is down from £283.56 to £279.58 for this year, with the cheapest home adult matchday ticket down from £20.10 to £19.19.

However League 1 clubs have increased the cost of more ticket categories than any other division in England, and an away fan now pays an average of £20.48 which is up from £20.02.

The price of a cup of tea rises 8% and is now an average of £2 per cup. Oldham Athletic charge a most expensive price of £2.50 for tea, whilst Portsmouth charge only a £1. Wimbledon, Charlton Athletic and Oxford United all charge £4 for a pie, with Blackpool and Rochdale the cheapest.

The headline findings showed that Blackpool and Northampton were the only clubs to have frozen or cut prices across all categories, and the most expensive Season Ticket goes to Charlton Athletic with fans charged £500 - although that has reduced from last year. Charlton also take the most expensive adult ticket at £34, but again that has been reduced.

Bradford boast the cheapest Season Ticket with a price of £149, with the cheapest matchday ticket going to MK Dons where fans, home and away, can pay only £10 for selected fixtures.

The most expensive away ticket is Wigan Athletic at a price of £30.

As the data is sifted through, the above link will lead you to club specific information, but as ever, Vital Football will give a club by club breakdown in the coming days.
