Whitney pleased with pre-season training
With the first pre-season friendly of the summer on the horizon, Jon Whitney's squad are currently in the midst of a gruelling fitness and team bonding course.
After what looked like an eye-wateringly difficult day, yesterday, the players will resume again today in what is the final day of the camp. Speaking to the Express & Star Whitney outlined his delight with the effort and application of his players.
"We have seen a phenomenal effort from the players, as staff we are very proud. Their attitude could not have been any better.'
The boss is also hoping that the hard work his side are putting in now will put them in good stead for challenges they'll face later on in the season. Too many times last season we saw a capitulation at the hands of some concerted pressure from the opposition, and Whitney will be hoping that these types of exercises can also help build the mental strength of his squad.
"When things are going great anyone can play. But when it`s a Tuesday night, when it`s pelting down with rain and howling with wind - that is when you have to dig deep. In the past we haven`t responded well enough when things have gone against us.
As mentioned, the Saddlers kick off their pre-season campaign on Saturday 15 July away to Solihull Moors.
