Reading 2 Walsall 3
The scoreline that will forever be etched into the minds of Walsall fans wherever they may be.
The 2000/01 season had already been a cracking season even before over 17000 Saddlers fans (outnumbered 3 to 1 by Reading) made the trip to Wales and the awesome Millennium Stadium.
For me the trip was made on the train with hundreds of other Saddlers fans. What I was blissfully unaware of at the time was that the train station in Cardiff is quite a walk from the ground and required a steady stroll through the main bulk of Royals fans.
'We'll get you, hic, back for beating us at the Bescot, hic' was one of the less abusive things being yeld by a blind drunk Reading fan. I'm still interested to know if that guy ever found the ground!
To be fair it was probably better he didn't cos, let's face it, we deserved to win. Whatever any Reading fan tells you about how they had the better chances and all that rubbish, we were the better team.
In all honesty I don't remember much of the game. I remember the goals, a shot from Zigor that went wide and playing the last five minutes with ten men after Roper got concussion.
One thing that I will never forget is the relief when that final whistle went. I will never tire of Rockin All Over The World by Status Quo purely cos it reminds me of our day in Cardiff.
Let us know what your memories of that day are through our forum.
