'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Walsall's manager speaks

Speaking from the training base in Las Palmas DD made the following points

'The training camp has been everything hoped for and more' His view was positive as we have come to expect. He also said that the planned training match which was due to take place yesterday didn't. The reasons were that the players had trained hard and everyone was prepared for the next 20 games as the season enters it's end game. Hence he didn't want to put any of the players at risk in agame they didn't need. The players who are due back tomorrow have held 12 sessions 8 on the training ground and some 4 fitness sessions in the pool.

Also as we told you earlier DD confirmed the fitness status of Dean Keates and Darren Wrack with both returning to full training. He gave no clues to whether they will be in the 16 for the Grimsby match.

As for the transfer window DD has stated that he will not be making any knee jerk signings. Saying that he has assessed the squad and it would need to be something special to come along to make him sign another player.

This may sound disappointing to so saddlers fans but in truth it is good management. He has said that the current squad are good enough, a boost to the confidence if one was needed. If anyone does come along it raises the belief in the fans that some thing positive is happening at the club, players will not be brought in for the sake of it (compare with Mr Merson)

Looking at it DD wanted a winger to run at defences, that is why the Fang came in but he also went. He also wants a central midfield player to replace the missing Kinsella. However it doesn't mean that we won't replace these players it just means we won't be rushed and we will pick the right man. Don't forget we can still sign loan players or those not attached until the March deadline.

I would still like to see a wide man and a central midfield player come into the squad. I would give Tommy Wright a chance too
