Shrewsbury 0-1 Walsall - Report

Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way, oh what fun it is to see, Walsall win away

Walsall gained revenge for last season's defeat, but the margin of victory could of been greater.

Milan Lalkovic's solo strike in the 54th minute was enough to give Walsall only their second win in seven.

In the opening ten minutes it was the hosts that caued the most problems with Gozie Ugwu and Tom Eaves both forcing stops from Richard O'Donnell.

Ugwu was released inside the area but his shot was down the throat of O'Donnell who appeared to just sit on the ball, a fantasti stop from such close range.

After that the Saddlers pressed but very similiar to many games this season - our final ball was missing. A brilliant ball by the hard working Craig Westcarr, found James Baxendale but he failed to anticipate the cross and it fell to safety.

Walsall's goal came following fantastic work from Romaine Sawyers - who picked the ball up forty yards out, ran forward with pace and then a delicate through ball with the outside of his boot, found Lalkovic who beat the offside trap to round the keeper and pass into an empty net.

The 1,126 vocal away contingent (highest League 1 following of the day) were sent home happy and Richard O'Donnell recorded his seventh clean sheet of the season, to send Walsall into the festive period with new found confidence.
