Walsall recorded their third consecutive clean sheet - our 6th of the season however it was a game in which the Saddlers felt they should have taken all three points, against a Crawley side who gained their first point in six games.
Dean Smith continued to keep faith with the side that had dispatched Shrewsbury and Peterborough with ease in recent weeks, however it was a surprise to see the Chambers twins in action following the sad news that their father had passed away in the week - it is a real credit to the club and their family that they both decided to play and their performance didnt waver which deserves our full respect and support - proud of you lads!
Onto the game itself and normally a nil-nil is difficult to get motivated for but if CRAIG Westcarr (Not Graham as The Sun noted) had taken one of his chances then Walsall would have made the long chilly trip from Sussex with maximum points.
After just ten minutes Walsall may have found themselves down to ten men and a penalty to face as Jamie Proctor went down under an inocurous challenge from Paul Downing, only for the referee to wave play on.
Soon after and the visitors started to grab hold of the game - first a Westcarr pass, found its way to James Baxendale but Jones saved well from close range.
Half Time - Crawley 0-0 Walsall
Not long after half time, the visitors should have been a goal up. Neat play from Mantom and Sawyers freed up an unmarked Craig Westcarr but his shot rebounded off the inside of the upright but bounced away to safety.
Westcarr was denied once more moments later when an Andy Taylor cross was fumbled by Jones, to the feet of Westcarr but Jones recovered to deny Walsall's leading goalscorer.
As the game entered the final stages a fiece shot by Ashley Hemmings was pushed away by Jones however Westcarr's follow up went straight down the 'keepers throat - if it went either side Walsall would have celebrated the win.
Full Time - Crawley 0-0 Walsall
The players and staff held their own minutes silence after the game in memory of Burt Chambers.
Walsall now turn their attentions to yet another away game on Tuesday night - this time to face under achievers Sheffield United.
