Walsall Lose In Senior Cup Final

Walsall Lose In Senior Cup Final

Walsall were defeated 2-1 by Stafford Rangers in the final of Walsall Senior Cup to give Stafford Rangers their first Walsall Senior Cup trophy since 1922!

Walsall were reduced to 10 men early on but denied Stafford Rangers a clear cut chance and was heading for extra time until Richard Taundry gifted Stafford Rangers a penalty with just ten minutes left.

Stafford Rangers got off to the greatest start possible when Danny Quinn ran straight through and slid the ball past a helpless Liam Roberts.

Walsall's first real chance came when Keiron Morris collected a pin point cross from Mal Benning but his effort was brilliantly pushed over by Stafford Rangers keeper.

Walsall got the equaliser ten minutes later when Richard Taundry's free kick was deflected past Alford in the Stafford goal...Still unsure whether Aaron Williams will be given the goal or it will go down as an own goal.

Our task got more difficult after thirty minutes when Alex Dallison was sent off for bringing down the lively Quinn with the Stafford man clean through.

We stood resolute until the 80th minute when that man again Quinn was brought down by Taundry and stepped up to fire past Liam Roberts.

Danny Quinn was the pick of the bunch tonight and caused us problems, wouldn't mind Deano taking a closer look at this guy.

Congratulations to Stafford Rangers and now that's the football fix finished until August.....

Walsall Team: Roberts, Ashmore, Benning, Dallison, George, Taundry, Morris, Kinsella, Williams, Bowerman, Jones.
