Smith Nominated For League 1 Manager Of Month

As expected Walsall boss Dean Smith has been nominated by the Football League for League 1 manager of the month for January.

During January Dean Smith's men won 4 and lost 1 of their 5 games.

Wins included 1-0 win at Stevenage, 2-0 win over Portsmouth, 3-1 win at Preston and 3-1 win against Bournemouth. Our only defeat came at Colchester. During this time we have topped the form table and installed ourselves as genuine play-off contenders.

Top of the form league, manager of the month gong surely ours?

However Paulo Di Canio and Gary Johnson are the other two candidates. Di Canio's Swindon won 3 and drew 2 in January and Johnson's Yeovil won their only 3 games in January due to weather.

It is hoped that given the remarkable turn around in fortune lately, Dean Smith will finally be recognised by the Football League for the work he is currently doing. However if they give the gong to much higher profile Di Canio then atleast we wont have the burden of Manager Of The Month curse on Saturday...

Results will be revealed Friday on Sky Sports News from 10am.
