Walsall FC have today confirmed that legendary goalkeeper Jimmy Walker has left the club by mutual consent.
Jimmy holds the record for the most appearances by a Walsall player after making 530 appearances upto January last year. Although his return back here hasnt been a momentous one no one will forget the service he has given the club.
Speaking to the Official Site Jimmy said "This has been one of the most difficult decisions I have ever had to make," said Walker. "This club is very close to my heart and will always be part of me. However, things have not panned out as I would have hoped this season and I have not been able to play as influential role as I would have liked.
He continued "One of my proudest ever moments was becoming The Saddlers` all-time Walsall FC appearance record holder and that will live with me until the end of my days.
"Most of all I would like to thank the supporters who have taken me in as one of their own and made my time here something I will never forget."
Jimmy started his career as a youngster at Notts County before moving to Walsall in 1993. Between 1993 and 2004 Jimmy was given legendary status for his shot stopping ability and also his banter with the Walsall faithful. During his 1st time here he was promoted 3 times in what was one of our most succesful periods in the history of Walsall FC.
Jimmy was given a 10 year testimonial in 2003 and an autobiography was also released.
In 2004, Jimmy broke alot of Walsall hearts when he moved to West Ham United on a free transfer - alot of us will admit he owed us nothing and the 11 years had paid for any transfer fee we could ever imagine.
In March 2006, Jimmy finally made his Premiership debut at the youthful age of 32 and won an FA Cup runners up medal that season.
In October 2010 the unthinkable happened and Jimmy returned back to Walsall. Since 2010 Jimmy has played a further 50 games for the club and helping the club to surival the past 2 years. Unfortuantely this season hasnt panned out how we had hoped and now Jimmy moves on to find his next adventure in football.
We at Vital Walsall would like to say Super Jim thanks for the memories and no doubt we will see you back home soon.
