Assistant To Be Named This Week?


Walsall boss Dean Smith has today said he shall be speaking to candidates this week for the vacant assistant managers job. He said he was also surprised by a few names that have applied for the position.

Speaking the Express and Star, Smith said; "There are a few who have jumped out who I wasn`t aware would be interested in the position. I have been surprised by one or two names but we`ll make a decision this week.

"I`ve met with a couple and we`ll see where we`ll go. I`ve got no favourites, I`ve got people to speak to. We`ll pick wisely and look to do it early this week, before Oldham."


After Saturdays defeat the race is on to find Smith an assistant.

The boss stated last week - its not a job for one man. "I've done it on my own before with some help from Jon Whitney and Chris Nicholl but it's too much work for one man, so it's something I want sorted ASAP, hopefully within the next week
