Match Report: Walsall v MK Dons

Sunshine blazed over the Banks' Stadium yesterday as Walsall and MK Dons stepped out ready for action.

The action began straight away with George Bowerman and Jamie Paterson showing some good interplay, leading to 'Pato' firing over.

On the 13th minute, Grof was forced into a low block and was caught out of position for Dean Bowditch's follow up, which was luckily cleared off the line by new boy Ben Purkiss.

Walsall threatened at the other end of the pitch and on the 17th minute, they made the breakthrough.
Ashley Hemmings floated his second corner in quick succession over to the back post where Dean Holden was waiting to force the ball home.

Dons looked to force their way straight back in through Dean Bowditch as he crashed an officer off David Grof's left hand post.

Just before the break Cuvelier's cross field ball set Bowerman away, but Dons keeper came a long way to prevent the chance but the loose ball fell to Baxendale who gave it to Paterson, who fired over.

Half Time: Walsall 1 - MK Dons 0
                 (Holden 17')

The second half began as an end to end affair with the visitors being the first to pose a threat, with Daniel Powell forcing Grof into a save.

Paterson dragged an effort wide, as both teams searched for the next goal.

The game filtered out with both teams fighting for an advantage, MK Dons looking the more dominant, as the Saddlers resorted to sitting deeply.

In the first minute of stoppage time, Alan Smith forced Grof into a good low double save as the Dons hunted for the equaliser.

Full Time score: Walsall 1 - MK Dons 0
                          (Holden 17')

A good hard fought victory, in a game where I'm sure the majority of us would have been pretty happy with a point.

A very solid defensive performance with Dean Holden looking particularly inspired and being rewarded with the only goal of the game.
