'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Match Report: QPR v Walsall.

It isn't often that Walsall get the chance to claim a Premier League scalp in the second round of a cup, but that is exactly what Saddlers fans were relishing on Tuesday as 436 fans made their way to Loftus Road for the Capitol One Cup second round.

Unfortunately it didn't quite turn out to be the dream night that we were all hoping for as QPR ran out 3-0 victors, admittedly not quite as deservingly as it may sound!

Walsall gave as good as they got in the opening exchanges, Jamie Paterson causing the Premier League defence a few problems until just before the half hour mark when some nice QPR interplay unlocked the Saddlers defence for Shaun Wright-Phillips to tap home the opener.

Walsall refused to crumble but things got a little worse before the break as Adam Chambers seemed to pick up an injury and Walsall were forced into a change, James Baxendale his replacement.

After the break Walsall came out in search of an equaliser, first with Cuvelier testing goalkeeper Rob Green, Will Grigg thundering a header against the crossbar and slap series of corners, unfortunately all to no prevail.

Not long after the hour mark, pre match doubtful, Bobby Zamora made it two, with a cute chip over the oncoming Grof.

QPR began to press and while Walsall still held the midfield well and refuse to give up trying for an equaliser, our fate was sealed on the 84th minute as new signing Jose Bosingwa made it three.

A great battling performance from the Saddlers, not deserving a 3-0 defeat by any means, and putting on a more than honourable battle against the multi-million pound Premier League side.

Full Time: Queens Park Rangers 3 - Walsall 0
(Wright Phillips 29')
(Zamora 66')
(Bosingwa 84')

Attendance: 6,129 (436 Walsall fans)
