Saddlers berate penalty woes
Manager Dean Smith and midfielder Kevan Hurst ranted this week about some of the refereeing decisions that has brought Walsall down so far this season.
Walsall has had only penalty decision for them in League One against Hartlepool after not being awarded a spot kick since 2009. Walsall have, however, conceded 3 goals from the penalty spot, costing them 6 points overall. Saddlers have also had 3 red cards so far in just 10 games, Chambers in the Carling Cup clash with Middlesbrough and two for Andy Butler, at Hartlepool in August and at the weekend against Colchester United.
After Butler's red card at the weekend in Essex, Smith insists the red card was wrong, as the foul took place outside the box.
'The foul was outside the box, I`ve seen it with my video analyst so maybe they can take it, have a look and get a little experience from it.' He told the Express and Star.
So far, their has been no appeals from the Walsall camp for Butler's latest dismissal.
"I don`t know if it`s because they haven`t played the game, but I feel it`s happened too many times. It`s affecting our results and where we are in the table.' Kevan Hurst added to the Express and Star.
It is an age old problem between officials and footballers, but Walsall must tighten up, let go of their grudges and hopefully the points will start rolling in as their reward.
