'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Saddlers breathes life for Anton Peterlin

Anton Peterlin has admitted that he is glad to have escaped the financial nightmare of Plymouth Argyle and to the safety of Walsall FC.

The Express and Star ran this story with the headline 'from Rags to Riches' which I don't think quite fits the Saddlers, but the sentiment is there.

Peterlin journeyed from the USA to Everton, where he made no first team appearances, to Plymouth Argyle, where he was dragged into their financial meltdown and subsequent administration. He was was not paid for months, causing a huge strain on him.

'During the week when you hear about it all the time...it weighs on you....you put it out of your head for the game but it`s always in the back of your mind. Right now everyone is struggling.' He told the Express and Star.

Peterlin now has a huge chance in the next three games to impress boss Dean Smith as he is likely to fill in for the suspended Adam Chambers.

He added: '"I`ll miss it but I`m glad I`m out of there and have my chance with Walsall.'

In a bizarre twist of fate, it was Walsall who were launched out of the relegation zone and kick started their 'Great Escape' as the Pilgrims were docked 10 points for administration in Feburary. This virtually condemned them to League 2 football and they finished the season 2nd from bottom.

However, Peterlin says that he has moved on from that and is ready to do a good job at the Saddlers.

'Now everyone has a clean sheet, so it`s a bit more relaxed now and there`s everything to play for.' He concluded.
