Walsall reserves secured their place in the totesport.com League Cup final in a fantastic 5-1 victory at the Banks's against Scunthorpe on Tuesday.
First year professional George Bowerman earned himself an impressive hat trick
First team players shone through in the tie which they initially fell 1-0 behind, but they clawed their way back to an ecstatic victory.
Boss Jon Whitney told the official site: 'I said to the lads before the game that we had to be ready for the battle and treat it with the intensity that we would a first-team game, and we certainly did that.'
Richard Taundry stepped up to score the Saddlers first on 19 minutes, before George Bowerman bagged a hat trick and Jamie Paterson hit the net to floor the visitors.
Whitney added to the Express and Star 'George did really well, I went to watch him at Redditch a couple of times where he played a lot deeper but he was another big plus.'
The Saddlers team was: Bevan,Taundry, Jones, McDonald, Lancashire, Marshall, J. Cresswell, Paterson (Mellors-Blair), Nicholls, Grigg (Butlin), Bowerman (Deards). Subs not used: Hayes, Wren.
Excellent! Well done reserves! Good for Bowerman getting his hat trick as it must be tough being a new professional. We look toward finding out our opponents and the date!
