Is Clayton in for saddlers

As we mentioned in our goalkeeper update some sources were reporting that the former Crewe stopper who is now at Coventry had turned up to train with the saddlers.

Well it seems the reports were true and although he has a year to run on his Coventry contract he has been told he can leave on a free transfer if he can fix up a new club. This appears to come to a head due to the signing of Andy Marshall by Coventry City.

We could certainly do worse than Clayton although his performances against the Saddlers in the past don't fill me with enthusiasium. But on the flip side he has played most recently at championship level and also a period on loan at Dundee, as well as collecting 63 international caps for Trinidad and Tobago. Also he was signed by another Championship club on his release by Crewe who if memory serves me right offered him a new contract as well. So he must have some plus points which we have not seen when he has played at Bescot.

One would expect that at 33years his experience would prove useful to the defence.

Clayton Ince is a very good keeper, I was gutted when we (Crewe) didn't manage to sign him. He'd do very well for Walsall.
