'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Fresh Start for Richo

Matthew Richards today expressed his disappointment at the sacking of Chris Hutchings and Martin O' Connor and says he is looking forward to improving performances under caretaker manager Dean Smith.

The 5 goal man spoke of his respect for the departed duo and acknowledged that it was only results that wielded the axe on them.

"(They had) the respect of the players, but, at the end of the day, this is a results business and they have suffered for it." He lamented to the official site.

However, there is no point dwelling as there is a serious challenge ahead for Richards and his men under new leader Dean Smith. The 26 year old stated that this week heralded a new start for the Saddlers and that they have the belief to turn their season around. He added: 'We have to stick together and focus on the rest of the season now. It's time to start afresh and push on from here.'

Of his new temporary boss, Richards has no doubts of his ability to steady the ship as the executive board hunt for a new boss. 'He's a very good coach and a positive person who will have his own ideas and I am looking forward to working under him.' He said.

There is no surprise that the player's have come out in nothing but support for their manager, even if the exact opposite was staring at them in the face. As we look toward tomorrow's game at Tranmere, let's hope that a fresh start is all the Saddlers need to reignite their season.
