Saddlers sting the Bees

WALSALL 2-1 BRENTFORD (L1)

Saddlers enjoyed a solid win over a bland Brentford side, who did take the lead.

Charlie McDonald put Brentford ahead on 16 minutes with a close range effort that gave Ince no chance.

But from then onwards, it was all about the Saddlers. Alex Nicholls started the comeback on 35 minutes with a side-footed effort that had quality written all over it. 1-1 at half-time.

In the second half, the Saddlers tried to break down a resiliant Brentford side. Eventually the winner came on 84 minutes when a cross by Nicholls found the diving head of Troy Deeney, who grabbed his 11th of the season.

The win sees the Saddlers climb to ninth in the table, but still nine points off the playoffs.
