Former Saddlers man annouces retirement

Ex-Saddler Tommy Mooney has announced his retirement from football at the age of 37.

The forward started his career at rivals Aston Villa in 1989 before moving to Scarborough in 1990, making 107 appearances scoring 30 goals.

He then moved onto Southend and then he went on loan to Watford, where he made a permanent move in 1994.

He made 241 appearances for the Hornets scoring 58 goals, which alerted the attentions of Birmingham City, where he transfered to in 2001.

After three loan spells at Stoke, Sheffield United, and Derby, he moved to Swindon in 2003 and then onto Oxford in 2004.

Wycombe signed Mooney in 2005 where he really made a name for himself, reaching an FA Cup Semi-Final as skipper. He made a total of 87 appearances, scoring 29 goals.

Dickie Dosh then got him on a free transfer to bring him to Walsall, where he earned himself a legendary status in just one season where he made 36 appearances and scoring 11 goals.

Mooney then moved to Spain to finish his career, signing for UD Marbella, where he only made four appearances.

He announces his retirement after making a total of 643 career appearances, scoring 185 goals.
