I have been reading the papers and looking on the net so see who`s next to sign for Walsall. After releasing several key players, including Michael Ricketts and Paul Boertien, there were no promising signs of anyone agreeing terms at WS1....until the past 7 days.
I am cautiously pleased with the signing of former Luton striker Sam Parkin, as he is a goal scorer who will bag some goals for us next season, but he will need to have a solid pre-season and prove to everyone that he is a danger man in League One.
I do have it on good authority from the Hatters fans that he will be a good player for us, but we have signed good players in the past, players like Jamie Forrester who came to the club with glowing reputations but they did not produce the good on the pitch.
Only time will tell for the 28-year-old as to whether his Saddlers tenure is a successful one.
The amount of speculation around at the moment as to who will follow Parkin through the door at the Bescot is quite promising. Players such as Lee Hughes, Marlon Broomes, and even Kevin Phillips have been linked to the club, which if proven to be true, it shows some ambition from Hutch in his quest to build a team to compete next season.
I wonder what will occur in the next week or so, hopefully more of the same.
