Palmer completes shock Gills move

Chris Palmer is the footballing equivalent of marmite - you either love him or hate him. However, the mood towards him amongst the Saddlers fans will turn even sourer after last night, Palmer made a shock switch to League One newboys Gillingham.

The versatile winger was reported to have signed a new one-year-deal a month ago, but it has been revealed that he had failed to sign it by the time he returned to pre-season training.

There is yet to be a possible motivation revealed for his departure, although it was no secret that the 25-year-old believed he was better than the club, demanding a transfer to a bigger club in January.

Clearly, Palmer was lacking the loyalty, which will undoubtedly be a possible reason for his departure.

It leaves us with just 17 players in the whole squad, and we are now in pre-season training. No prizes for stating that we are setting the wheels in motion for another disappointing season.

At least Gezza showed his appreciation to us over the weekend, after he completed his £250K deal to Cardiff.
