Walsall to lose out on FA Cup Star

Walsall to lose out on FA Cup Star

Chasetown defender and former Wolves trainee has had an impressive trial with league one rivals Tranmere Rovers. Having had a promising trial at Walsall the fact we have a number of centre halves and the fact that Paul Merson left the club meant that no offer was forthcomming. Now other clubs who were alerted by Slaters form in the FA Cup against Oldham have stepped in.

Chris Slater played the full games for Tranmere's reserves in a 5-0 wi against Wrexham and a penalty shoot victory in a cup game against Liverpool. Slater was impressed with the set up and the manager Brian Little during his time at Rovers. The feelings were mutual with Chris Slater being invited back for pre season training. An offer which has also been made by league one rivals Blackpool.

If we have any geniune interest in the player who has expressed a desire to stay in the area, we must hope that the special relationship between the chairman of Chasetown and Walsall has some influence.

Despite the signing of James Constable and other non league players been on trial, I must ask the question, do we really keep track of the local non league scene, how many promising players are slipping through our grip.
