Alex Nicholls injury blow

Young striking prospect Alex Nicholls limped out of last nights Youth team semi final victory against Hednesford after 45 minutes. The ankle injury was later X-rayed and it has shown a fracture to the ankle. The break will keep him out of football for the rest of the season.

This is a blow not only for the lad himself but also Walsall's survival chances. Despite his inexperience Alex has shown his potential in the first team. He's pace and determination won him many admirers. Once critised by Merson for needing a better finish, the signs were that as his confidence grew this side of his game was also improving. In fact only a class save stopped him from scoring a wonderful equaliser against Stoke for example.

With our limited options up front it is sure that Alex would have played a part in the final run in. He would have provided a different option, one sadly we no longer have.

Good luck with your recovery Alex,
hope to see you back in the red shirt soon
